What is Milady Maker?

Milady Maker is an NFT collection of 10,000 profile pictures (PFPs) on the Ethereum network with the ERC-721 token standard.

All images are created in a unique art style inspired by Tokyo Chibi. NFTs quickly became quite popular meme profile pictures, with the floor price rising to a record 3.54 ETH after the initial sale.

Milady Maker in numbers

  • The initial sale of the collection started in August 2021 at a mint price of 0.05 ETH.
  • The total volume of secondary sales exceeded the mark of 31k ETH (more than 58 million dollars at the current exchange rate).
  • The floor price is 3.54 ETH, which is 71 times more than the minting price.
  • Sales on average range from 3.4 ETH to 4 ETH.
  • #2804 sold on July 7, 2022 for 17 ETH (about $21k at the time of sale).
  • A total of 3269 unique holders (33%).
  • Only about 3% of the collection (283 pieces out of 10,000) are for sale, among them the range of offers from 3.54 ETH to 100 ETH. This shows that almost all holders see the project as a great investment prospect and are not in a hurry to part with their assets at a lower price.

Who created Milady Maker?

The creators of the collection are:

Charlotte Fang is the subject of public discussion and criticism. The designer retweets posts that are ambiguously perceived by the community:

Against this background, Charlotte Fang has been criticized more than once for allegedly despising homosexuality and calling it a disease, as well as comparing black people with monkeys and stating that anyone can save the country by killing Jews. Such accusations were made after a series of tweets and retweets on Twitter, which were subsequently deleted, and Charlotte Fang herself said that it was a joke.

In addition, among the brightest members of the community, one can find rather ambiguous statements:

Why is Milady Maker popular?

The Milady Maker project is popular not only in the Asian NFT market, but also in the world, which is confirmed by the floor and the interest of the community. And that’s why:

  • The popularity of the project in the Japanese NFT market was primarily influenced by the attitude of the collection towards the subcultures of Tokyo, as the style of the characters is combined with the style of youth national subcultures;
  • The development of the project beyond the original plan, revealed even before the release of the collection. This created a surge of interest in the project from the global NFT market;
  • NFTs can be set as a profile picture, since the tokens are a kind of meme “girls”. They became popular among fans of the digital metaculture of memes, primarily among the influencers of Japanese collections on Ethereum on Twitter, which generated another wave of interest in the project from the community;
  • It is also impossible to deny the fact that the collection won such popularity in a less colorful color. For example, a collection has a rating scale with the highest SS score. Some users felt that in this way the creators of the project rooted the Nazi overtones in the project. And in the additional project That B.I.T.C.H., users noticed the word “Treblinka” – the name of one of the death camps in Europe during WWII. All these accusations of using Nazi motives only hyped the hype around the project online.

Should you invest in Milady Maker?

There are several factors due to which the collection can be treated positively:

  • The floor price currently exceeds the minting price by 71 times;
  • Exciting IRL events for NFT holders;
  • Community engagement through targeting Japan’s youth subculture, which is popular all over the world;
  • The hype around the scandalous creator of the project Charlotte Fang keeps the project in the constant information field.

In any case, do your own in-depth analysis and research when investing in NFTs, and then make your own decisions.

Opinion of NFTmetria

Milady Maker is quite an ambitious project with a focus on the Japanese youth subculture. The project has evolved much further than originally thought: instead of being introduced as an avatar on one of the MineCraft servers, Milady Maker released several additional collections, launched an online store for branded clothing and developed IRL events. This brought a huge amount of engagement not only from fans of Japanese culture, but also from influencers.

In the future, perhaps the project will only gain crowds of fans through the release of other additional collections, despite accusations of Nazi overtones both by one of the creators and the project as a whole.
