On the Ethereum layer 2 platform, Base, artists can now mint their music as NFTs at a fraction of the cost compared to traditional platforms. The advantage lies in reduced gas fees and faster transactions, enabling artists to upload and withdraw without the need to buy cryptocurrency or bridge their funds.
The “Based” track, centered around blockchain themes, marks the beginning of this collaboration. With lyrics like “We’re bringing a billion on-chain. Some people leave whenever there are tough times, but shout out to the real ones that stuck by,” the song embodies the spirit of this new venture.

- Enhanced User Experience: BASE, similar to Optimism and other layer 2 solutions, offers a seamless user experience with significantly lower gas fees and rapid transaction processing. It also enables free uploads and withdrawals, eliminating the need for artists to purchase crypto or bridge their funds.
- Mass Audience Access: The strategic integration with BASE allows Sound.xyz to tap into a massive audience. With over 100 million users and $130 billion in capital on Coinbase, BASE becomes a natural entry point for a new generation of users to explore blockchain through music.
- Artist Empowerment: Artists retain full control over where to deploy their contracts on Sound.xyz, with the option to choose BASE, Optimism, or mainnet Ethereum. Gas fees for uploads and deploying split contracts (for revenue sharing) are covered by Sound.xyz. Withdrawal fees after making sales are also covered.
