Disney partners with Cryptoys to issue Mickey Mouse NFTs at $40 apiece

Cryptoys, the NFT-native digital toy company backed by Andreessen Horowitz, has officially announced an enthralling collaboration that brings the iconic Mickey Mouse and his beloved companions into the world of blockchain collectibles.

In an announcement on Monday, Cryptoys expressed its immense enthusiasm for the upcoming launch of a new NFT collection, forged in partnership with Disney. The enchanting world of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Pluto will grace the NFT space as the newest additions to the Cryptotoys lineup, with their debut slated for September.

Under the title ‘Mickey and Friends,’ this NFT collection unveils a captivating array of 15 limited-edition digital toys, each intricately designed to capture the essence of these beloved characters. Additionally, a selection of accessories will accompany these endearing collectibles.

A recent livestream shed light on the rarity structure of this collection, which follows the footsteps of its predecessors. Each character, namely Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto, will encompass five distinct rarity levels:

  1. Common,
  2. Rare,
  3. Legendary,
  4. Grail,
  5. Ultra Grail.

An innovative twist comes in the form of rewards for NFT collectors who complete their sets, offering them the opportunity to acquire the exclusive Grail or Ultra Grail Sorcererā€™s Apprentice Mickey. Although this particular treasure won’t be available on the day of release, Cryptoys’ team is diligently brainstorming ideas to introduce more rarities, ensuring inclusivity for a wide spectrum of collectors.

CEO Will Weinraub expressed his excitement, noting that this venture introduces a unique perspective to experiencing Mickey Mouse. Each enchanting piece within this collection is priced at $39.99, adhering to Cryptotoys’ customary pricing for their digitalized NFT-based toys, perfect for both play and collection. Like previous issues of this brand, NFTs will be minted on the Flow blockchain.

Early experience of Cryptoys in the NFT world

This collaboration isn’t Cryptoys’ first encounter with Disney’s illustrious universe. In May of this year, they debuted an array of NFT collectibles inspired by the iconic Star Wars characters. The collection celebrated the characters of Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia, accompanied by remarkable gear, within an immersive and unique galaxy. Each collectible was available for purchase at $39.99.

More recently, in a move reminiscent of Sorcererā€™s Apprentice Mickey’s inclusion in the NFT collection, Cryptoys announced the integration of Yoda into the Star Wars assortment. This announcement, released on August 7, emphasized Cryptoys’ commitment to making Yoda digital toys accessible through various levels of rarity, ultimately catering to a broader audience of collectors.

The journey of Cryptoys began with their collaborative venture with toy manufacturing titan Mattel in October 2022, aptly titled ‘Masters of the Universe’ (MOTU). Marking the 40th anniversary of the beloved character He-Man, this launch solidified Cryptoys’ presence within the NFT realm.

Collectors can secure their prized digital toys using either debit/credit cards or cryptocurrency as a payment method, with each treasure priced at $39.99.

Last year, Cryptoys successfully closed a $23 million Series A funding round, led by a16z Crypto. The investment round witnessed participation from eminent names such as Mattel, Dapper Labs, Draper & Associates, Acrew Capital, CoinFund, Animoca Brands, and Sound Ventures, as reported by TechCrunch.
